The Measure of a Year

Looking back on 2016 there is so much to give thanks for and so we put pen to paper to not only reflect on 2016 but to also share some exciting new initiatives we have planned for 2017.

What we’ve done in 2016

  • Launched the ‘Thrive’ Bible based gap year program
  • Started 4 new homegroups
  • Launched Mervyn’s new book on 1, 2, 3 John
  • Sent Gareth Heuer to GWC
  • Began a Bible Club alongside the St James Educational Trust’s work in Mannenberg
  • Sent Denzil to preach and pastor at St Luke’s Mitchell’s Plain (as a ‘Co-mission’ initiative)
  • Launched the St James APP
  • Welcomed 250 people at our week of evangelism
  • Renovated the ‘First Steps’ facility (0-18 months) and the play area in the Children’s Centre

New Initiatives for 2017

As part of our Connect 2017 initiative we will be celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

Our goal is, as a church, to have 500 meaningful gospel conversations in 2017.

To do this we will:

  • Create a 3 week course for newcomers - Intro Nights 1-2-3
  • Publish a step by step guide for ‘Your first 100 days at St James’
  • Train as many as possible to be able to use their testimony for gospel conversations
  • Host an EE Training Clinic
  • Complete a strategic assessment of our Children’s ministry
  • Appoint a Children’s Worker Apprentice, and by the end of the year, employ a new Children’s Worker
  • Launch a new off-site student congregation on the University Campus
  • Make contact with Abbot’s College Res as a neighbourhood youth connection
  • Establish a regular presence at South Point Student’s Res (Main Rd) as a new student contact
  • Intentional neighbourhood partnerships, e.g. involvement at the Purely Park 2017 Carols
  • Relaunch our website
