Keeping the Focus - Mervyn

The Christmas season is one during which it is easy for us to be distracted and to lose our focus, especially when it comes to our walk with Christ. Diary demands and deadlines, financial demands and pressures, work pressure and exhaustion – all of these can leave us staggering rather than running or even walking toward the end of the year. And before we realise it, we find ourselves having compromised on time with the Lord or time with His people. We let things slip spiritually and then have the added burden of guilt to carry along with everything else!

So, what can we do to keep our focus?

First, be aware of the danger – forewarned is forearmed.

Second, be intentional about prayer and Bible reading. At this time of the year especially, we are surrounded by words and images that clamour for our hearts. Remember that your heart belongs to Christ and feed your heart with His life-giving Word. Ask His Holy Spirit to be at work in your heart to keep you devoted to Christ.

Third, remember that the greatest gift of all is the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. It is good to be generous. So, let’s be generous with the good news about Jesus. Although we are approaching the end of the year, REACH 500 is still in full swing – let’s keep the gospel conversations going. There is nothing like sharing one’s faith to keep one on the right track spiritually.

Fourth, let’s be thankful – thankful for all of God’s good gifts but especially thankful that in the midst of all that life brings our way, Jesus is the Lord and we belong to Him.
